Meet Evan Jenkins

About Evan

Born and raised in the Mountain State, Evan Jenkins has a passion for West Virginia and its people. Twenty-seven years ago, Evan and Elizabeth were married and have raised two sons and a daughter. Their oldest son is serving our country in the U.S. Marines.

Throughout his life Evan has been dedicated to helping others and giving back to his community. Evan served as a volunteer leader in his community for the Boy Scouts of America, American Red Cross, Foundation for the Tri-State Community, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Evan also served as an Elder in his church.

Five years ago, Evan teamed up with key community leaders and health care professionals to start Lily’s Place, a facility to care for newborn infants that were drug exposed during pregnancy. More than 200 babies have received loving care and support at Lily’s Place and the program has been recognized as a national leader in caring for the most precious victims of the opioid crisis. Evan has been a passionate advocate for children and believes every child deserves a healthy start in life.

Restore The Public Trust

Recent revelations of inappropriate spending of taxpayer money and personal use of government property by members of our state Supreme Court have led to federal indictments, House of Delegates impeachments and two resignations. Our Court is in crisis and the public trust has been shattered.

Evan believes it is absolutely essential that we immediately begin the work of restoring the public trust and confidence in our West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals. Evan submitted his application to West Virginia’s independent Judicial Vacancy Advisory Commission (JVAC) which makes recommendations to the Governor on filling judicial vacancies.

Evan has thirty years of experience in a wide range of legal issues and complex cases before Administrative Law Judges, Circuit Court jury trials and the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals. Evan also has twenty-two years of experience making the laws the Supreme Court interprets under our Constitution. Evan also taught business law at the university level.

After a comprehensive and detailed review of Evan’s legal and public service work experience and personal interview, Evan was among those that received the ‘best-qualified’ designation by the Judicial Vacancy Advisory Commission for appointment to fill the Supreme Court of Appeals vacancy. On August 25, Evan Jenkins was appointed to the office of Justice, West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals.

Evan is immediately undertaking the effort to restore the public’s trust in our state’s highest court. Evan promises to follow the Constitution, uphold the rule of law and will always decide cases fairly and without bias.

Evan understands that the decisions rendered by the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals will directly impact the daily lives of each and every West Virginian. Judges are elected by the people and must be accountable to all citizens and each case deserves a fair and unbiased decision. Our democracy rests upon the ability of judges to interpret the law fairly and consistently. Evan will work hard to make sure the judicial system works for all West Virginians and that each and every citizen can access the legal services they need and are entitled to receive.
